GM, Ford recall nearly 700,000 U.S. vehicles over safety defects

General Motors and Ford Motor Company have announced separate recalls affecting nearly 700,000 vehicles in the United States due to various safety defects. These recalls aim to address potential hazards and ensure compliance with federal safety standards.

General Motors is recalling approximately 668,000 vehicles, primarily certain Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain SUVs from model years 2020-2023. The issue stems from a potential defect in the daytime running lights (DRLs), which may be too bright at night, exceeding federal regulations and potentially dazzling oncoming drivers. Dealers will update the body control module software to rectify this.

Separately, Ford is recalling around 43,000 F-150 trucks from model years 2022-2023. This recall addresses a potential issue with the rear axle hub bolt, which may fracture, leading to a loss of drive power or, in some cases, unintended vehicle movement while parked. Dealers will inspect and replace the rear axle hub bolt as necessary.

Both manufacturers have stated they are not aware of any accidents or injuries directly related to these defects. Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail with instructions on how to schedule free repairs at authorized dealerships. These recalls underscore the ongoing commitment of automakers to identify and address potential safety concerns in their vehicle fleets.
